Working Off Those Extra Pieces of Pecan Pie

Yes sir, I do enjoy Thanksgiving.  And of course, I ate too much too often.
So today, I was back to working on my barn project.
Got a lot done this afternoon putting the cross strips on the lean-to addition.
Soon the metal roof will be added.

And I was sweating too!  Should have melted off something, surely!

A Big Day Of Thanks!

We wait for so long, then prepare for days ahead,
and then a full day (or two) of cooking, baking, and stirring and mixing.
And the family gathers, a prayer of thanksgiving is offered up, and the meal is finally served.
And in thirty minutes, it's all over!!
Folks are stuffed to their fullest, moans of happiness & satisfaction as each one finds a comfortable place to relax and let it all "settle."
Oh how I love THANKSGIVING DAY!

Far From The Maddening Crowd... NOT!

1.  The "maddening crowd" of thousands crowd the little (almost deserted) town of Bostwick, GA for their annual festival.
2.  Billed as one of the "largest tractor parades," we watched one after another of these restored, semi-restored, and original tractors that were still plowing fields, file by for 30 minutes... had to be over 150 of them in all shapes and sizes.
3. Susie Agnes Hotel, now serving as the city hall, and being restored by the historical society.
4.  A long, old, brick shed with an ailing tin roof, and a long "pit" down the center for cooking BBQ... "everybody" uses it (organizations cooking to raise money).
5.  One of the few remaining fully operational Cotton Gins being used in the state today.  Up and running day of festival !
6.  Oh the days when "cotton was king" in the south.  Even now, there are places (like here) where fields go on for miles with row after row of cotton ready for picking.  Every time I see one of them, it reminds me of that Bible verse from John 4:35, "Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."

Sky Writing

Looking West towards the sunset, past the Atlanta airport 60 miles away....
love the contrails of the planes coming and going.

Then There Were Seven

When I went to feed my chickens this morning,
I found one had decided to part this world of luxury here with me.
I did not hold a funeral, but I did bury her.
No signs of violence... so I'll say "natural causes."
And now there are seven....

Killing A Rainy Saturday!

Saturday afternoon, the Mrs. and I decided to have lunch and then go "browse" around one of our local "antique malls" that is really nothing more than a gigantic flea market!
And by gigantic, I mean an old cotton mill, 3 stories tall, in a building that takes up an entire city block!

And this same scene was repeated over and over and over...on all 3 floors.  (But we only made it through one of them!)

Rainy Day's Are Good For Some Things

I'm very much involved in my family's genealogy,
and have been researching for years.
I have FINALLY started writing a book about my Mom's family, Charlie & Mattie Morgan.
For now, here's the cover.....(subject to changes)

So far, I have finished the first section, and well into section two, with plans for sections three and four and five!  Ambitious, I know.   So on these days and days of rainy weather, and winter finally coming on, maybe I can focus more on this project.... sure would like to finish it before the spring planting!

Leaf Watching

Nothing wrong with your screen....
Do not adjust your set or try to clear up the focus.
My "leaf watching" trip this week has been what I could see
while running errands around here IN THE RAIN !!!
Somebody send us some clear blue skies and sunshine!!!
YUK !!!

A Time For Being Thankful

Now that Halloween is gone, we turn out attention
to the season of Thanksgiving!   And my mouth waters!
However, it is also a great time to reflect on what we are thankful for.... so I'm joining in with Betsy over at http://myfivemen.blogspot.com/ and listing in my sidebar, "30 Days of Thankfulness."  (And please know my list of things is NOT a sequence of importance... but rather things that I am thankful to have in my life.)
Please enjoy as we march along this month towards the big day of Thanksgiving and family.
